Everytown for Gun Safety
In the wake of the Pulse nightclub shooting on June 12, 2016, my team at Everytown mobilized quickly to transform the devasating tragedy into sustained policy change that would prevent future mass shootings.
Disarm Hate became the rallying cry we chose to demand lawmakers pass legislation that would keep guns out of dangerous hands. We repurposed the iconic Pride flag to honor the LGBTQ+ community while also centering the color orange — the official color of gun violence prevention.
We used the Disarm Hate brand to create educational content for social media about the deadly intersection of homophobia and gun violence.
The Disarm Hate logo showed up at Pride parades across America as people mobilized for legislative action to address gun violence.
Disarm Hate drove thousands of calls to Congress and the groundswell of support for gun reform reached a fever pitch. The result was a historic sit-in in the House and an all-night filibuster in the Senate.
